I’m a portrait photographer in Berlin and I work on creating memorable and sincere photographs that will resonate with people and will be expressive and memorable. I have been doing portrait photography in Berlin since September 2021. Before that, I also worked in Manchester, Tallinn and St. Petersburg. I have been working on my style for over 9 years and continue doing so. For me, it’s a constant search for new inspiration and a research about life and our vision of it.
My style is heavily inspired by paintings starting from the renaissance until modern art. I especially love the style called chiaroscuro which was invented by Caravaggio. It makes the photographs look dramatic and mysterious.
In this post, I would like to share my portrait photography in Berlin in 2022 which you can see below. I have collected the photographs that resonate with me and left some comments about them.
The way I work
When I provide portrait photography in Berlin, it’s mostly more than just a portrait photoshoot. It’s a photography project which we create together and we start by getting to know each other to have a better connection and feel more comfortable during the photoshoot.
This is important to be open to the photographer and be yourself in the pictures. When I do portrait photography people often ask me how should they look for the pictures. I would say it’s good to look after yourself but your real beauty is inside you and it’s very well seen in the photographs. Be yourself and trust the photographer you work with and if it’s a professional he will do everything to capture the most important things.

My portrait photography in Berlin in 2022
I have done many photoshoots in late winter and spring and most of my portrait photography this year was done in the city.
I have done a few editorial photoshoots and wrote a separate post about one of them. Although, here I don’t want to focus on a specific photoshoot and want to share the images that I like.
One of the first photoshoots that I did was a personal branding photoshoot for an actress. It’s being used for the promotion of a play in Berlin. What I like about this photoshoot is that I had a certain message to convey straight away. For my portrait photography in Berlin, I always try to go a little bit further than just portraits. I love storytelling photography and I try to create every image with a reason and a story.

I tried to make a mood of isolation for the whole of the series and used the flash to create a contrasting spot of light in the focus point to darken the rest of the lights.
Portrait photography in Berlin In 2022 In Studio

This portrait photo is made in my studio. That was rather a fashion photoshoot than just portraits, but these genres are close together. I wanted to keep unusual for my style soft contrast and consistent warm shades of grey. I really liked the results of the portrait photoshoot and created all sorts of images that day.

I hung this white cloth to create a light but at the same time dramatic and surreal look for the series.
I work a lot with musicians doing personal branding and portrait photography for them. This kind of portrait photography is a bit different since lifestyle images show the flow of their work better.

My portrait photography on the streets of Berlin.

I also like to use natural light and I often do portrait photography in Berlin outside. As in the picture below I reflect and manipulate light to make it a little bit mysterious.

When there are two people in the portraits it’s a great opportunity to add some engagement between them and create a whole plot in one image.

I use some rules from the world of cinema. To show the atmosphere better I mix closeup portraits with full-body photographs from far away.
