This post is describing the best photography locations in Berlin. Most importantly these are not touristy places but the best for fine art and portrait photography. I do not mention such places as Brandenburger Tor or East-Side Gallery because it’s an author’s blog and I don’t try to make another copy-paste post about some landmarks of Berlin. I also work as a portrait photographer in Berlin and tried them out myself. If you search for unusual and interesting places to take pictures – this is the right place!
I will always update this list with the best photography locations in Berlin when I find new ones.
These are only my opinion on which locations are working well, but, of course, the photographer creates the pictures and not the locations.
Which are the best photography locations in Berlin
I would say of course there’s no perfect place for photography, each photography project requires a different atmosphere, but yet some areas have a lot to offer while others are more generic. This post will be for mid-range pictures and photographers who prefer lenses between 35-70mm. It’s best to use prime lenses for learning photography. I would say the best photography locations in Berlin should be dynamic and have not too much space so you can find different frames from closeups to broad landscape shots.

- – AEG AM HUMBOLDTHAIN

1 – Tempodrome and around it

This building is really interesting, especially because of its big wide stairs at the front. It offers plenty of beautiful angles and compositions for photography. Whether you’re into fashion, portrait, or street photography, this place is perfect. Plus, it’s conveniently located in the centre, making it easily accessible. If you go along the park to the south you will find yourself on a footbridge which is going under the U-Bahn viaduct
2 – KINDL Zentrum, the area next to it and the staircase

This location has a fascinating and unique atmosphere. It exudes a captivating vibe with its grungy and cool handmade bar area, complemented by the presence of industrial buildings nearby. The Kindl building, in particular, radiates vibrancy and holds immense potential for creating imaginative and artistic images. It’s a place where your creativity can truly flourish, capturing the essence of its distinctive vibe. If you pass towards Berlin Kart you can find stairs full of graffiti. The location is quite diverse and is also in the middle of Neukölln which is the main bar area and as many people say the most vibrant area of Berlin at the moment.
3 – Park am Gleisdreieck
Similarly to others, this park offers a variety of views of the city and different perspectives. You can shoot nature or concrete ramps and a wall with graffiti. This is a very diverse and one of the best photography locations in Berlin

1 – Graffiti, ramp and the area next to S-Bahn.
2 – Rabbitholes, former rail bridges (pedestrian nowadays)
3 – Footpaths through a more foresty area with abandoned rails
There’s more to see, if you have a stroll through the park you can find many interesting locations to take pictures.
4 – Heinrich-von-Kleist Park

This is a little park in Shöneberg which is in front of the Berlin court building. You can see the beautiful North German Neo-Baroque even before entering the park. The entrance to the park consists of two colonnades with statues and if you push your creativity to the limits you can create amazing works there.
The park is small but can be a nice location for some pictures. In my opinion, it is one of the best photography locations in Berlin!
5 – Tiergarten Viertel
Probably not the whole but the area between Gemäldegalerie and Neue Nationalgalerie. Of course, if you walk around you will find a lot more of modern and interesting architecture as well as public spaces. This area is good because when exploring it you may find open spaces and some narrow pedestrian passes between these big new buildings. Of course, everyone knows about Potsdamer Platz nearby.
6 – AEG am Humboldthain

If you click on the name – you will get the point on the map at the entrance to the most interesting part of the quarter. It used to be a group of factories manufacturing electrical motors as well as supplies for railways. More history is here. This is one of the most industrial places in Berlin where you can see the architecture of the late 19th century. I personally did a couple of industrial-style artworks made of photographs taken at this place.

You can also go to the park next to the factory and go up to the top of the hill to have a view of the city. This is actually not a hill but a fortification from the times of WW2. In this bunker, germans were defending the city until the very last day of the war.
7- Görlitzer Brücke and around

This location is interesting since it’s a former viaduct which is used nowadays as an extension of Görlitzer Park. There are also some cosy streets in Kreuzberg and if you walk around you may find some unusual angles and perspectives. I would recommend going there during sunny weather because this area can be quite grey and depressing. Although, of course, it all depends on the mood of the photoshoot.
I would say you can take some stunning images going on the bridge, under it and in surrounding areas.

8 – Treptower park

Maybe there are too many parks in this post but there’s always some architecture except for greenery.
This is one of the best photography locations in Berlin. And this location has a few things to offer:
The park itself
The park is quite diverse and is located next to the water which makes it a very good location.
Soviet War Memorial Treptow
I would say this is the biggest soviet memorial I have seen. It’s very monumental and is made for the sole purpose – propaganda. It’s a fascinating location which is very interesting for portrait photography, especially if you want to get some imperialist and anti-utopic mood. Aside from that, it has such sharp and bold architectural shapes that you can try to experiment and create some abstract architectural photography.
Little island on Spree – Insel der Jugend
This is completely opposite to the previous location in Treptower Park. it’s a cute island with boat rentals and a beautiful footbridge with towers. Could be an emotional relief and a place for relaxation after the Soviet monument)). It’s a nice place for the pictures too.
Abandoned amusement park
There is also an abandoned amusement park nearby that used to be a very popular location to go. But it’s not easily accessible to the public since there is a fence from all sides around it and entry is now forbidden. They are arranging guided tours in this park nowadays but this is probably not what you would like to do there and photography wise you will be very limited to the selected tour.
9 – Prenzberg

This whole area and especially where the pin is on the map is full of restaurants and cafes. It’s a lot less wild than Neukölln for example. It used to be an area in east Berlin and after the fall of the Berlin Wall, a lot of squat buildings were there. Since people were afraid and immediately moved to western Germany abandoning their flats, a lot of flats were empty and poorer people started moving into these flats. That’s how the first “hipster” area of Berlin appeared. There were a lot of people with artistic backgrounds.
Later on, the whole district was renovated and now it’s well preserved cosy area with a lot of rich and famous people living there.
10 – Panke Terrace
I share this location with you because my blog is not popular yet))) otherwise wouldn’t be nice to reveal such hidden places. It’s not as easy to find these best photography locations in Berlin. Berlin is rather good for locals than newcomers. For tourist purposes, it’s also not the most interesting destination but the best city to live in. This is one of the less popular locations about which most tourists don’t know.
It’s located on a river bank and consists of a big former factory building with a couple of bars and a gallery. The building is covered with graffiti as well as a tunnel nearby. Walking around you can find a lot of nice atmospheric backgrounds for your photos as well as take some images in the yards of the building.
That’s it, I hope you have got some inspiration and discovered something new in this article. And I want to encourage you to go and check out these best photography locations in Berlin.
