Top 7 not so Known Photography Locations in Vienna
Hey, Fedor is here! Ready to discover the best not-so-known photography locations in Vienna? I’ve listed some that I have found myself, although I believe there are many more. Vienna is perfect for photographers looking to capture something a little different. In this post, we will talk about photography locations in Vienna.
As well as working as a photographer professionally, I also love to do street photography and especially love to explore the cities. As a local, of course, I have visited all of the touristy places and in this article, I offer you a few more alternative photography spots or areas that have caught my eye.
I often do portrait photography for work and passion as well, and these locations I have chosen because I see a lot of potential for portrait photography there. These locations are dense, have historical background and aren’t too overcrowded if you come at the right time. Although some of them are well known, it’s my personal selection and not another copy-paste list of places to visit

Photography Locations In Vienna
Naschmarkt

While it’s a well-known location I still have to list it. For capturing the vibrant essence of Vienna, the Naschmarkt is the place to visit. This lively market, with its colourful stalls and diverse crowd, is perfect for street photography. It showcases the lively, eclectic side of Vienna.
Hundertwasserhaus

Definitely a unique photography location in Vienna, the Hundertwasserhaus is a visual feast. The building’s quirky architecture and vivid colours make it a dream location for photographers who love capturing something extraordinary.
Ankerbrotfabrik

Stepping into the Ankerbrotfabrik is like entering a different city. To be honest, it has quite a familiar atmosphere to me, as it looks like a quarter of Manchester where I lived for several years. This former bakery, turned into a cultural and artistic hub, is one of Vienna’s hidden gems. With its industrial charm and contemporary art scene, it’s a hotspot for photographers seeking an alternative vibe.
Neubau

This is Vienna’s 7th district and it’s known for being artsy and lively. It’s a great place for photography with its mix of old buildings and cool, modern shops. The streets here are lined with unique boutiques, cool cafes, and interesting street art, which makes for some great photo opportunities. There are a lot of narrow passages between the main streets and a lot of hidden gems. The vibe in Neubau is young and hip, and it’s a place where you can really capture the blend of traditional and contemporary Vienna in your photos.
Prater

This place is famous for its traditional funfair vibe, making it a great spot for those looking to capture a bit of old-time amusement park charm in Vienna. Prater’s classic rides and stalls have a nostalgic feel, perfect for photos that have a retro touch. As the day turns into night, the park lights up, and all the rides and attractions take on a different character under the vibrant multicolour lights. I would definitely recommend this to every street photography lover.
Of course, if you search for Instagram spots in Vienna this is also a good choice. As well as all of the photography spots I offer in this article, Prater is good for both professional portrait photography, street photography and Instagram shots
You can find there a giant clown head illuminated in red lighting – it’s a bit creepy but super fun as well)).
Gefechtsturm Augarten

This tower is a part of Vienna’s unique history. It’s one of the Flak Towers, massive concrete structures built during WWII. The one in Augarten stands out because it’s in the middle of a peaceful park, which creates a striking contrast.
These towers, including the one in Augarten, are huge and imposing, and they have a raw, brutalist style. They’re not just historically significant; they also offer a unique backdrop for photography. The way they tower over the surroundings gives you a chance to play with scale and perspective in your shots. And the contrast between the peaceful park setting and the starkness of the tower adds an interesting dynamic to the photos. These towers give off a different vibe depending on the time of day, but there’s always something intriguing about their presence in the city.
Spittelau Incinerator

This place is more than just an incinerator – it’s a work of art by Friedensreich Hundertwasser. The building’s colourful and unusual design makes it a cool spot for photos. Around the incinerator, there are several floors where you can walk and get different views, which is great for finding new angles for your shots.
I had a photo walk in that area and found it interesting that you can go up to U6 and walk above the ground where you can find different views. That whole area is quite interesting. In front of it, there’s a viaduct running along the canal, adding a nice urban touch to the scene. It’s a great mix of industrial vibes and creative design, and it gives you a lot of options for some unique shots in Vienna.
There’s More To Come
These are all the photography locations in Vienna I wanted to recommend you to visit. Since I’m still relatively new to the city I have more areas to explore and more places to find myself. When I do I will add them to this list.
