This February, we had the chance to photograph a small, elopement-style wedding photoshoot in Austria, and it turned out to be one of those shoots that reminds us why we love what we do. The location was Klagenfurt – a quiet and charming city in the middle of the country, surrounded by mountains and located next to a beautiful lake. It was still winter time, sunlight was extremely bright, and for a few moments during the shoot, it felt like spring was just around the corner. Still the air was cold which unfortunately made us rush the shoot a bit.
It’s a photo story, we have created together with my partner Anna, as we work on our weddings and couple oriented project “Comet photography“
Our story is probably not the most unique one, I’ve been working as a portrait and wedding photographer for years and Anna was also doing photography for as many years as I did, but as a hobby. Yet she photographed a couple of weddings during the time a looking at the photos I realised that these images are quite striking and exceptional. Even though I’ve spent years working, Anna is on about the same level as me, just having a bit different style and skills. I always felt like we could do it together combining our strong sides and capturing every little detail. And after all, with this photoshoot we started doing photography together.
We brought both digital and film gear with us, which is kind of how we prefer to work – digital to catch every moment and film for extra aesthetics. Often we use the colours of film photography for our digital photos too, so aside from its unique quality, it’s a reference.
From clean city alleyways to a higher viewpoint overlooking the landscape, and finally ending up at Wörthersee – it felt like every stop added a new chapter to the story. Austrian lakes have this stillness that balances everything out. Without that final stop, the shoot would’ve felt incomplete. The cold made it tricky at times — we had to work fast, keep the couple warm, and still stay focused on what we were capturing — but sometimes the limitations are what actually make the result stronger.
Shooting this wedding photoshoot in Austria together allowed us to split our attention in a good way. I was mostly looking for broader compositions and context — shots that feel like stills from a film. Meanwhile, Anna was getting in closer, catching smaller interactions, moods, and those beautiful little details, creating the more minimalist part of the gallery.
For the editing part we decided to reflect the atmosphere of the day in colours — we leaned into a slightly cooler palette with a lot of soft, natural tones and muted contrast, which fit the minimal, elegant nature of the elopement. It wasn’t overly styled, and that was the point — we wanted it to feel real and understated. The groom’s vintage Mercedes added just enough flair without it turning into something too polished.
One of the things I personally love about doing a wedding photoshoot in Austria is that you can blend modern and natural so easily. You can shoot a clean, cinematic portrait in the city, and half an hour later you’re by a lake or in the middle of a forest. There’s a lot of visual freedom, and when the couple is up for exploring a bit, it all just clicks into place. Austria does not have big cities and even in Vienna where we are based, you can reach stunning nature locations just in about 30-40 minutes from the city centre.
Comet Photography

We’re sharing this gallery partly to show what’s possible with a small, intimate wedding, and partly just because we love the feeling it carries. If you’re planning a wedding photoshoot in Austria, especially something low-key and personal, we hope this gives you some ideas. These are the kinds of shoots we’d happily do again and again.
Wedding Photoshoot in Austria: Gallery
this gallery I would like to split in several parts of short sequences of photos from different locations. Of course we started the photoshoot in the registry office in Klagenfurt and then did some photographs around it.
Chapter 1: Registry Office

Chapter 2: City and a Viewpoint

Chapter 3: The Lake
At the end of the photoshoot we headed over to the Lake called Wörthersee for it’s minimalist elegant and romantic crenery.

Hope you enjoyed looking through the gallery from a small wedding photoshoot in Austria we did recently and it gave you some inspiration. If you’d like to inquire about our wedding photography services you can reach out to us and we will capture your love story in our cinematic style.
