My Favourite Wedding Venues Where I Have Photographed
These are the 5 best wedding venues in Vienna and within easy reach from it; that I would recommend and that, according to my humble opinion, are great for different wedding sizes and moods. My list is not a top list, and the venues are ordered according to their locations, although the most beautiful of them is probably Fernblick, it’s the farthest from Vienna.
When it comes to weddings in Vienna, the venue sets the mood — not just for the ceremony itself, but for the way the day feels, the way it photographs, and the memories that stick. Over the years, I’ve been lucky to capture weddings in some truly beautiful locations, from hidden city courtyards to panoramic mountain views. Of course my photography is rather about mood than locations and it’s possible to capture the atmosphere of each one; but sometimes you have a venue where you can’t stop shooting.
Table of Contents
1. Vienna Ballhaus (9th District)

- Location: Berggasse 5, 1090 Wien
- Website: http://viennaballhaus.com/
A hidden gem tucked away in the 9th district. From the street, it looks like any other city building, but step inside the courtyard and you’re greeted by palms, greenery, and a magical, intimate atmosphere. The indoor halls combine classical architecture with subtle modern touches.
Why I love it:
Especially because I have walked past it many times before shooting there for the first time and didn’t think something so nice is hidden in there. A courtyard with many decorations made in quite a tasteful way and the banquet hall with classic baroque interiors.
From photographers perspective it gives space to photograph outside scenes and inside allowing for big photos variations. This all helps to make the photo gallery look especially dynamic.
Photography highlights: Courtyard lighting, contrast between architecture and greenery, intimate moods.

2. Heuriger Schübel-Auer (Grinzing, Vienna)

- Location: Grinzinger Straße 74, 1190 Wien
- Website: https://www.schuebel-auer.at/
One of Vienna’s classic wine taverns. The terraces and halls are versatile, accommodating intimate gatherings or larger receptions. The surroundings give it that timeless Heuriger charm that feels authentically Viennese.
Why I love it:
A very classic and Viennese experience of a Heuriger. It also has a nice outside area and quite cinematic and aged-well interiors. It’s a location that automatically makes my photos look even more cinematic.
Photography highlights: Garden ceremony location, cozy interiors, romantic details.

3. Heuriger Sirbu (Nussberg, Vienna)

- Location: Kahlenberger Straße 210, 1190 Wien
- Website: http://www.sirbu.at/
Rustic charm in a cozy Heuriger surrounded by vineyards. Small, authentic, and full of character, perfect for couples who want a traditional Viennese wedding with a relaxed, intimate vibe.
Why I love it:
The smallest and cosiest place. A bit similar to Heuriger Schübel-Auer but located on the hills with the view over the vineyards and the city itself. It’s a nice location for small weddings and it’s especially best for wedding couple photoshoots as it offers beautiful views and nature locations just next to the venue itself.
Photography highlights: Vineyards in golden hour, warm interiors, candid moments.

4. Villa Schoenthaler (Semmering)

- Location: Maxi Böhm Straße 1, 2680 Semmering-Kurort
- Website: https://www.event-residenzen.at/villa-schoenthaler/
Elegant villa nestled in the mountains. Combines historic architecture with cinematic landscapes — perfect for couples who want drama and romance in equal measure.
Why I love it:
Rather grand and elegant location that is 2 hours away from Vienna and suitable for mid size weddings. It’s dark wooden facade and many small balconies is like a treasure for me as a photographer. With my contrasty and cinematic style I can push it here to the limits and do artful images as you can see below.
Photography highlights: Sweeping mountain views, dramatic architecture, many viewpoints and angles to photograph.

5. Fernblick (St. Corona Am Wechsel)

- Location: St. Corona am Wechsel 69, 2880 St. Corona am Wechsel
- Website: https://fernblick.at/
A modern & vintage style venue with panoramic views. Open terraces, vintage design, and a focus on nature make this place ideal for bigger size weddings. I would describe the style of the interiors to be closest to art deco
Why I love it:
A big wedding venue made in a style that feels like wes anderson’s movie which fits my photographic style very well. The most scenic location for the ceremonies with beautiful birch trees and view over the mountains. I don’t know what to add to this!) Maybe just that in the evening the light is falling through the windows making this interior shine in golden colours .
Photography highlights: Scenic landscapes with mountains, lawn hilltop location for ceremony, vintage style.
