Vienna Photo Walks
Uncovering Hidden Gems
Welcome to Vienna Photo group which I called Photojam. As a passionate photographer based in this vibrant city, I’ve found that there’s no better way to explore its essence than through photo walks. The name of the group came to me randomly as there are music jams where people get together and experiment with musical instruments and same here with the photo walks and cameras. We meet, I set a restriction or a theme to make it more fun, and then we wander through the city and capture it while enjoying company and just sharing this experience. Let me take you on a journey through Vienna’s streets, capturing moments that define the heart and soul of this historic city.
Vienna is a photographer’s dream. Hidden alleys, coffee shops, markets… Every district has something to offer for photography.

Every Photowalk Is Unique

Every Vienna photo walk I lead is a unique thematic journey. Instead of wandering aimlessly, we set out with a specific genre or topic in mind. Sometimes it’s about subjects, colours, or techniques, these themes guide our exploration. This approach isn’t just about constraints; it’s about deepening our focus and creativity. By embracing these ‘limitations’, we challenge ourselves to look beyond the obvious, to find beauty and stories in unexpected places. It’s about pushing the boundaries of what we can get out of our cameras.
The Walks We Have Had So Far
Diptychs
As I already said, every time I try to focus on a specific topic in every meeting we have. For example, the first meeting I hosted was all about diptychs. A diptych is a type of art where the story is told through 2 images placed alongside. We had a nice stroll in the city centre of Vienna and took a lot of nice images. Here I would like to share a couple of my shots from this meeting.

Double Exposure
The next walk was dedicated to the double exposure technique. The art of blending two images together. We got lucky that it was snowing and the mood was very nice and minimalist. Here are a few shots from the walk:

Black & White
one of the recent Vienna photo walks was on the topic of black-and-white photography. Black and white photography is elegant and stylised. When photographing in Black and white one has to focus on light only and not on the hues but on their values. It’s an interesting experience and we will definitely repeat that in the future.

Capturing Vienna’s Heart

What makes Vienna unique? Is it the Gothic spires, the baroque art, or its music scene? During our Vienna photo walks we try to capture the stories happening on the streets, at the same time, training our techniques and bringing artistry into our shots. It starts by capturing the fleeting moments – a smile shared over coffee, the old man feeding pigeons, or a lone musician serenading the streets and continues on with more complex fine art works
Photography Tips for the Vienna Explorer
Vienna is our playground to learn, improve and capture stunning shots. Remember, the best shots often come from unexpected places. Pay attention to the play of light and shadows, the contrasts in textures, and the candid moments of city life. Most importantly, let your curiosity guide you.
Try to also focus on different stories happening on the streets and express them in your photos during your Vienna photo walk. A city is not only about architecture but also about people.
Another thing I want to mention is that it’s always good to limit yourself. Limitation always brings creativity.
That’s why on each photowalk we have a different topic that works as that restriction to make the walks more productive and challenging.
Community and Collaboration
Photography, at its core, is about sharing perspectives. Vienna photo walks are not just about taking pictures; they’re about building a community of like-minded individuals, always getting feedback, improving and growing together. I regularly organize and participate in photo walks – and I invite you to join us, share your stories, and connect with other photography enthusiasts.
