Medical conference photography for Genup Summit
I photographed Genup Summit, a two-day medical conference and product expo held in Vienna’s business district. It was a smaller but busy event, with around 50 attendees, several networking sessions, product presentations, sponsors and the main conference programme taking place in a hotel meeting room.
My task was to cover the conference itself, the medical product expo, networking moments, sponsor presence and the presentations throughout both days.
While I’m a Berlin-based photographer, I sometimes travel to Vienna for longer conferences and corporate events. For assignments lasting more than one day, I travel to locations like Vienna as it’s quite straightforward, and I have lived and work there before so I know the city perfectly.
Covering both the conference and medical product expo

Genup Summit combined different parts of an event that all needed attention. There were speakers and presentations in the main room, but also networking sessions, product demonstrations and an expo area where sponsors could show medical products and speak with attendees.
For this kind of assignment, I try to create a useful mix of photographs: clear speaker images, wider views of the room, natural networking moments, product details and images that show the atmosphere of the whole event.
For clients planning a similar event, I also provide conference photography in Berlin and trade fair photography, including coverage of presentations, stands, teams and visitor interaction.
Working around a projector against the windows

One of the more challenging parts of this conference was the main room setup. The projector screen was placed against the windows, which created a strong difference between the bright outside light and the darker conference room.
During a conference, I cannot use flashes to light the entire room. It would be distracting for speakers and attendees, and would simply make the experience less pleasant. Instead, I worked discreetly and looked for angles where the windows did not overpower the photographs too much.
By changing position and balancing the exposure carefully, I was able to keep the images bright, clean and usable for Genup Summit’s marketing, while still showing the people and atmosphere naturally.
One more challenge was to adjust the colours of the images as the first row of people as we as the speakers were illuminated by the colder light from the outside while the back rows where lit by yellow conference room lights, so I had to use some editing magic to make it more consistent and polished. This is the part of work that is sometimes a bit more difficult but satisfying when it’s done.
Networking, sponsors and presentations

The networking sessions were an important part of the event, so I made sure to photograph conversations, introductions and interactions around the expo. I also documented the sponsor presence and product presentations, creating photographs that can be useful for future communication, social media and event promotion.
Smaller medical conferences can be very dynamic because different things happen at the same time. The important part is staying aware of the programme while also noticing the natural moments around it.
This is especially relevant when an event includes both a formal conference programme and an exhibition area. The photographs need to show not only who spoke, but also how the event worked as a whole: the speakers, attendees, sponsors, products and conversations between the sessions.
Fast delivery after a two-day conference

As always, I sent some highlights immediately so the organisers had photographs ready while the event was still fresh. The complete edited gallery was delivered around a day and a half after the conference.
For conferences and product-focused events, fast delivery can make a real difference. It gives the team material for social media, follow-up communication and marketing while the event is still relevant.
