5 ways to promote your photography business

6 Ways To Promote Your Photography Business

Here I want to give an insight into the best ways to promote your photography business which I use and which are working for me.

How To Promote Your Photography Business

When it comes to marketing you need to take attention to who your customers are. For example, my customers are professionals and businesses since I provide portrait and visual branding photoshoots aside from that I also do fine art photography. So to promote my business I need to speak to people running businesses or working as self-employed (specialists musicians, designers…). I like running my business and am very interested in photography so that’s why I also write this blog.

But directly for my clients, I have created these pages:

Music portrait photographer in Berlin

Photography services in Berlin

Creating these pages resulted in a very good lead recently:

How I made 1000€ in one day from my photography website

What types of photography are the most profitable

Portrait of a man with a newspaper

Basically any. If we speak about high-end photography you can do wedding photography or shoot products for big businesses and leave very well of it. The most important is to find your niche, the genre that you love especially and focus only on this.

This is a bit harder but you can do street photography at a very high level and publish photobooks and join exhibitions. But since street photography is very popular you would have to be the best out of the best. I used to do street photography too but then decided that I need more drama and moved towards fine art where I can input a lot of stories into my images and tell them to the viewer.

What you shouldn’t try

I would also recommend not going into stock photography. This will never make you rich. This will never be a passive income too, you will have to work all the time and earn a bit more than basic income. Aside from that stock photography will die out soon when AI technologies will be developed enough. Shutterstock, for example, is already working with AI. To develop as a stock photographer and start to generate good income, you need 2-3 years, and AI might develop enough within about the same time to make your income start to shrink once you started getting noticeable income.

Instead, try to develop into a direction of more intricate photography or documentary that will not be replaced at all.

5 Ways To Promote Your Photography Business

1. Word of Mouth:

One of the most effective ways to promote your photography business is by word of mouth. Ask your friends and family to spread the word about your services and ask them to recommend you to their own friends and family. You can also reach out to other photographers and vendors in your industry to network and collaborate. It’s interesting that our society still very much depends on personal connections. People are more likely to order services from someone they know even if their competitors might be better

2. Social Media:

Social media is a great way to promote your photography business and get the word out about your services. Create a website or dedicate a page on a popular social media platform such as Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook. Post regularly to share your services, photos, and updates. I personally got a few orders from social media and even though I don’t like social media and what it became nowadays, I can’t delete my pages and stop posting there. Some people love social media, but I don’t… Try to define if your clients spend time on social media and decide how much time you can dedicate to it.

3. Networking:

Networking is essential for any business, including photographers. Attend local events, join photography forums, or join professional organizations for photographers to meet other professionals in your industry. This can help spread the word about your services and attract potential clients. Aside from forums for photographers try to focus on your potential clients too. If you work with private clients you can join any social events to get to know as many people as you can. You will see the results very quickly, and will probably make some good friends.

Try to find events on Meetup or similar services and go and meet people. It is important!

This way to promote your business, I would recommend the most!

4. Promotions:

Promotions are a great way to get the word out about your photography business. Offer discounts, special packages, or referral bonuses to clients who refer new customers to you. This can help increase your customer base and attract more business.

This would be another way of networking. I did a few photoshoots almost for free from the referrals but that way more people found out about me and I got more clients.

5. Direct Marketing:

Direct marketing is an effective way to promote your photography business and reach potential customers. Create an email list to send out newsletters and updates. You can also attend local trade shows or events to meet potential customers face-to-face. Aside from that, you can contact a PR agency, the more mentions about yourself you get – the better.

6. Publishing your photographs

Another way to get exposure and be found by your clients is to publish your photos everywhere. Try to contact local businesses and offer them your photos for free, don’t forget to ask them to mention you. Try to get published on different websites and in magazines. I personally got my pictures published many times through Kavyar(I never paid a single € to publish my photographs, I think if a photo is good you would never need to pay for it to get it published).

Promote Your Photography Business: What I’ve Learned.

When you try to promote your photography business you need to not focus only on one thing. It takes a long time, yes, but this time pays off in the future. Remember that you’re not just bringing traffic to your website but building an audience and telling people about what you do. Personal connections in our world are very important too. So the way to promote your photography business is to get to know many people.

I wish you a great journey ahead! I do not believe in luck and advice you to not rely on it. Instead, try to turn up the probability of a good outcome by mentioning your business everywhere you can.
