Music photography in Berlin is a fascinating field that has captivated me for the past two years. As a photographer, I have had the pleasure of working with numerous musicians and creating portrait photoshoots that capture the essence of their music in a single photograph. It’s a creative and rewarding field that requires a unique approach to capture the style, art, and personality of the musician in the portrait. I enjoy working as a music photographer in Berlin and it feels like I start focusing solely on this genre.
How we have chosen this style
One of my most recent memorable experiences was working with Jose, a classical music composer and performer. We spent some time discussing his music and the inspiration behind it, which helped me to understand how to convey his personality and artistry in the portraits. Since his concerts have different light effects and large parts of the scene are often dark, we decided to create the whole series with a black background. This added a dramatic effect to the portraits and conveyed the mood and style of his music.
While doing music photography in Berlin, I experiment with different lighting techniques, using a smoke machine to create dramatic and artistic shots that truly reflect the inspiration behind the music. The smoke machine allowed me to create visible rays of light that scattered throughout the volume of air and smoke, which added a unique and captivating effect to the portraits.
Here you can see more examples of my work and discover the unique beauty of music photography in Berlin.

I took quite some shots with different colours of light to express the style of the stage lighting during performances and concerts.

The shot above I liked a lot because there’s some mysterious mood in it. At the same time, it is relatively simple. I tried to use the light as the main attention point to make the viewer wonder what is happening there and where it comes from.

Using a smoke machine I tried to depict the atmosphere of a stage, at the same time creating simpler photographs too.

Here I have a touch of fine art photography in this photoshoot. I have used this technique a couple of times to capture motion while preserving the sharpness. I understand that It may sometimes highlight the atmosphere and make the photographs look surreal.
