1 Taking shots of a single object

Take an object in your room. Anything that is there and appeals to you aesthetically.

2 Focus On Reflections

Shooting reflections is a popular photography exercise for creativity. Rather than photographing reflections of buildings in puddles, focus on reflective surfaces and try to find interesting plots. Aim to capture surreal and abstract shots.

3 Shooting at night with a torch

Grab any lantern and shoot in the dark highlighting your subject with a flash ( it can also be your bike lights or a phone flash) try to take at least 20 different shots with this artificial constant light on long exposure. This exercise will help you to understand light properly as well as will tune up your creativity For these photography exercises for creativity you can put your camera on exposure longer than 1 second and move your lantern to highlight any parts of the shot

4 Shooting double exposure

This photography exercise for creativity is great for finding interesting compositions consisting of 2 frames. If you have a film camera – that might be even more interesting. If you have a digital camera – this feature might be built into your camera. Otherwise, if you have photoshop simply put one layer on top of another and change its blending mode to the one you like more. It’s a great type of photography exercises for creativity.

5 Creating Diptychs

This technique comes from medieval times when paintings were made on 2-4 canvases telling the story along them. In photography, I find it very interesting to match some compositional aspects or colours and create a diptych out of them. What I offer, is to take a camera and take shots with the purpose of creating diptychs having in mind the shots you have already taken, and continue on with taking more shots to complete the pairs.
